Holiday Gift Ideas for Skateboarders

Looking for affordable gift ideas for your skateboarder but stumped on items that aren’t a full sized deck?

We’ve got you! We’ve compiled a list of items that a skater would love and that keep you under budget, creating stress free holiday shopping.

In no particular order, the following items all cost less than $25.

  1. Fingerboards- Often found at your local toy store. Individual fingerboards can be purchased for as cheap as $3.97!

  2. Griptape- Fresh grip feels so good. Not only does it improve the appearance of your board, but griptape can often loose its “grip” by wearing down and reducing balance. It typically needs to be replaced every 6 months-1 year, depending on the wear. It can be found at Town City Skate Shop for $10 (MOB Grip).

  3. Bushings. Skateboard truck bushings are the rubbery rings that fit around the kingpin on your skateboard trucks. Typically made of polyurethane, the bushings assist in allowing your board to turn and pivot smoothly. You can purchase soft to super hard bushing, depending on your preference. Usually our youth members ride with soft or medium and these can found at Town City and range from $8-16.

  4. Laces. New shoe laces- so simple. You might have also noticed they are commonly used as belts for those in the skate community as well.

  5. Curb Wax- Skateboard wax is used to reduce friction between a skateboard and the surface it's sliding or grinding on. This makes tricks easier to perform and can help prevent injuries. It can be found on our website for $6.99.

  6. Skate tool. A key component, especially when changing up your trick. A skate tool is the skateboarder's Swiss Army knife. It allows you to mount hardware and adjust components on the fly. It’s used daily to change your wheels, tighten the screws up, change the grip tape, repair the screw thread, or clean the bearings. Can be found online or at Town City for $22 or less.

  7. Hardware. Needed for new board set ups and or when your bolts are stripped and/or rusty. Can be purchased on our website for $7-8.

  8. Water Bottle- An important item carried daily by athletes to all sporting events.

  9. Skate stickers

  10. Skate socks

  11. Bearings. The metal ring that fit inside a skateboard wheel to allow it to roll smoothly and quickly. A few brands are available for purchase at Town City, ranging from $25 (Andale Blues) to $60.

  12. Tail Devil. So cool. A tail devil is a plastic flint spark plate that attaches to your nose or tail of the skateboard and displays sparks while doing tricks like manuals. Super fun to see at night. This product can be found on Amazon for $27 (slightly overbudget but worth it!)

  13. Skateboard Wall Hanger- perfect for displaying new or used decks as wall art in a room. Can be found on Amazon for as low as $10.99

  14. Skate rails: Often used to prevent scratches on your favourite deck graphic, they are thin strips of plastic or metal that attach to the underside of a skateboard. A two pack is available at Town City in various colours for $16.

  15. Bag of concrete. An odd request but a fingerboarder will know what to do with a $5 bag of concrete from your local craft store (smaller bag). Creativity is endless while making DIY fingerboard obstacles.

  16. Skate magazines (Usually include posters inside (Thrasher, SBC Skateboard Mag, TransWorld, Free Skate Magazine)).
